time lords
An elite grouping of the inhabitants of Gallifrey who watch the Universe throughout time and space, and whose credo is to observe but never interfere (a result of their interference on the planet Minyos almost caused total annihilation). They are amongst the oldest races of the Universe. The Time Lords run a vast Academy on Gallifrey and they are split into three distinct castes: the Arcalians, the Prydonians and the Patrexes. The Time Lords are ruled by a constitutional High Council, led by a President and supported by Cardinals, a Chancellor, various Councillors and a Castellan, who is the head of Gallifreyan security. Various Gallifreyans and Time Lords have rejected the Time Lord lifestyle - either choosing to live in Gallifrey's outer wastes, these known as the Outsiders; or the renegades, who left Gallifrey altogether. Renegades include the Doctor, the Master, the Rani and the Monk. Time Lords live for many years, via a process known as regeneration, whereby they can use up to thirteen bodies. Time Lord society was founded by Rassilon who, along with Omega, first provided the Gallifreyans with the means to time travel. Rassilon was the very first Time Lord.
