sontaran rutan war
A war fought over millennia. Few know how, when or why it started, only that it did and it made good sense not to get involved. Earth was initially considered of little importance. However, it is known that around the start of Earth's twentieth century, the Rutans occupied most of the galaxy and approximately thirteen thousand years later, the Sontarans decided to occupy the planet. With the Rutans' shape-shifting abilities, and the Sontarans being capable of mass-cloning, neither ever seemed to have the upper hand. The Sontarans developed very crude time travel capabilities, but with limited success. They even attempted to invade Gallifrey but failed.
