Axos was a vast living organism capable of splintering into small, humanoid figures, as well as many-tentacled monsters that could kill on contact. They were brought to Earth by the Master and pretended to be a race needing urgent help. In return, they offered Axonite, which appeared to be a wonderful synthetic mineral that could increase the mass of foodstuffs, solving mankind's food problems for ever. In actual fact, Axonite absorbed the energy from Earth. The Doctor tricked Axos into entering a time loop, travelling through the same few points of space and time for eternity.
