Having been forced to flee Gallifrey, the Time Lord chemist known as the Rani set up home on the planet Miasiama Goria. She enslaved the local population, and made them work harder for her by depriving them of sleep. This turned them into savages. To rectify the problem she headed for Earth, stealing the chemical in the human brain which induces rest. By doing this, she was responsible for a number of aggressive conflicts, including the American Civil War, the Luddite uprising and the Trojan War. At a later stage she kidnapped Einstein to help create a Time Manipulator.
