ice warriors
Reptilian inhabitants of the planet Mars, the Ice Warriors were encased within a hard exoskeleton, and carried a variety of sonic weapons to kill their enemies. They were a proud, militaristic race, who realised Mars could not support life forever. A group were sent to Earth to deem if it were possible to colonise it, but became embedded within a glacier. During the twenty-first century, a Martian fleet attempted to take over Earth by ridding it of oxygen. They made their attempt through the use of seed pods that were transmatted to the planet surface from a T-Mat station on the moon. The Doctor intervened, redirecting the fleet into the sun. Hundreds of years later, the original Ice Warrior ship was uncovered from the glacier and, led by Varga, the Martians attempted to take over Brittanicus Base. However, they were destroyed when an ioniser melted them together with their ship. The Doctor next encountered the Ice Warriors on the planet Peladon, which was requesting membership to the Galactic Federation. The Ice Warriors had abandoned their old 'death or glory' ways, and were now a leading member of the Federation. However, there were groups within the Martian hierarchy who were dissatisfied with their new, peaceful, way and joined forces with Galaxy 5 who declared war on the Federation.
