On rare occasions, Time Lords could project, intentionally or otherwise, projections of their future selves. K'Anpo Rinpoche's future body was Cho-Je, while the Valeyard was the potential amalgam of the Doctor's darker side. The Watcher was a mid-regenerative projection, which alerted the Doctor to his fate at the hands of the Master when they became involved with Logopolis. The Watcher piloted the TARDIS out of space and time at one point to save Nyssa and Adric. After the Doctor had fallen to his apparent death, it merged with the Doctor's broken body to boost his regeneration.
