vionesium
A rare metal found on Mogar which, when exposed to oxygen, produced a brilliant flash of harsh light, similar to magnesium. Some had been smuggled aboard the space liner Hyperion III, where the Doctor discovered that the thrematologist Professor Lasky had created a species of sentient plant life, called Vervoids. The Vervoids murdered everyone in their path and the Doctor used vionesium to stop them, as the harsh light speeded up their life cycle, effectively photosynthesising them to death. At the Doctor's second trial, the Valeyard used this as evidence to charge the Doctor with genocide.
