time lords discover time travel
Although one of the oldest races within the Universe, the Time Lords of Gallifrey did not discover the secrets of time travel until quite late into their development. The engineers Rassilon and Omega realised that if they could explode the heart of a black hole and entrap the resultant energy within Gallifrey, they could use the power to manipulate time. Omega was lost within the detonation, but Rassilon utilised the nucleus, and called it the Eye of Harmony. This power has enabled the Time Lords section of Gallifreyan society to evolve into sophisticated beings, honoured and respected throughout the cosmos.
