Inhabitants of the planet Skaro. They were at war with the Kaleds, also natives of Skaro, for hundreds of years, making most of the planet uninhabitable. The Thals eventually won the war when the Kaled scientist, Davros, provided them with a special chemical substance which destroyed the Kaled dome, killing everyone inside. The Thals were then attacked by Davros' new creation, the Daleks. Over the centuries, the Thals evolved into specimens of human perfection, peaceful farmers who tended the soil and tried to rebuild the planet. Their knowledge of their past was handed down by word of mouth and some visual records. These told them that their ancestors had fought the Dals, who were originally artists while the Thals had been warmongers. Dying of starvation, a group of Thals tried to seek help from the Daleks, who responded by trying to exterminate them. The Doctor helped the Thals defeat the Daleks and over the next few centuries, the Thals became a space faring race, but always at war with the Daleks. It appeared that the Thals had long abandoned Skaro, or been wiped out by the time the Daleks returned there. Davros later used the Hand of Omega to turn Skaro's sun nova, destroying the planet.
