sonic screwdriver
A complex device built by the Doctor that, through its use of sonic vibration, can achieve many things. It can remove a simple screw, or open electronic locks - although not simple mortise locks. It can set off land mines or ignite marsh gas. If a spinning mirror is attached to the top end, it can be used to hypnotise. Its vibrations can destroy intricate robotic machinery from a distance. Romana built herself a sonic screwdriver, far superior to the Doctor's, which he tried to steal. His own was destroyed by the Terileptil leader.
