A figure of ancient evil since the dawn of time, Fenric was defeated by the Doctor in a game of chess during the third century. His life essence trapped inside a flask, Fenric was cast into the sea. Once discovered, Fenric influenced those who found him, starting with a group of Vikings. A genetic code passed down through the generations ensured that eventually the flask would be relocated and opened by one of the poetically named Wolves of Fenric. Amongst those connected to Fenric was the Russian soldier, Sorin, and the Doctor's companion, Ace.
