Humanoid slugs considered mythical by the avian Jocondans until they invaded Jaconda, usurping the Time Lord Azmael, who had been the leader. The Gastropod Mestor, intended to crash Jaconda into its sun. The subsequent detonation would spread Gastropod eggs throughout the galaxy. Azmael kept secure a substance lethal to Gastropods. The Doctor used this to destroy Mestor's body while Azmael destroyed his mind. Without Mestor to control them, the other Gastropods were helpless and easily disposed of.
