When the TARDIS arrived on the Northumbrian coastline in 1066, the Doctor, Vicki and Steven Taylor discovered another renegade Time Lord in the area, posing as a Monk. He was intending to supply King Harold's troops with futuristic weapons, with which to defeat the invading Vikings. With the Norsemen stopped, Harold would be better prepared for facing William the Conqueror at Hastings where, with the Monk's weapons, he could defeat the Normans and thus alter history. The Doctor managed to stop the Monk's plans and leave him stranded in 1066. As the Vikings swarmed over the local countryside, history remained on the right track.
