Victorian scientist who, along with Theodore Maxtible, made a pact with the Daleks, providing them with both a route to, and a base on, Earth. They were researching their defeats and seeking out what exactly 'the human factor' was that gave their foes such an advantage. Although Theodore Maxtible willingly helped them, Waterfeld's main reason was that the Daleks held his only daughter captive. Victoria Waterfield was used as bait by the Daleks to see what lengths the Doctor and Jamie McCrimmon would go to in an effort to save her. After realising that the Daleks were wholly evil, Waterfield travelled to Skaro with the Doctor to engineer their defeat. Waterfield sacrificed his life in the ensuing battle to ensure the Doctor's success.
