Around 2520, the empires of Earth and Draconia made formal approaches to each other, with the intention of breaking mutual suspicion and distrust. General Williams commanded an Earth ship which was damaged in a neutron storm. When a Draconian battle cruiser approached, Williams could not get a response from them, and he used his exhaust rockets to destroy it. A brief war broke out immediately in which millions died. Diplomacy brought the war to a swift conclusion, although it left the two Empires locked in a cold war for a further twenty years. Williams later learned that the original ship he had destroyed was not armed. It too had been damaged in the same neutron storm.
