The man who sought power on the planet of Tara, by killing Prince Reynart and marrying his beloved Princess Strella. Romana bore a striking resemblance to Strella, and as the Princess was unwilling to help him, he kidnapped Romana instead. Tara was a planet famed for its android technology and so the Doctor programmed an android duplicate of the Prince to be crowned and challenged Grendel to a duel. After a sword fight, Grendel realised his plans were finished. However, rather than face imprisonment, he dived into the moat surrounding Castle Grecht and presumably made his escape.
